Introducing and understanding whole notes (developing rhythm)
Whole Note
Worth four beats.
We are about to use our first two chords to create music. But before we can do this we need to have some understanding of counting rhythm.
Music is ordered into bars. The most common bar is divided into four (4) beats and, because it is the most common, it is called common time.
In a bar of common time there are four beats. In the example there is only one note and it lasts for four (4) beats. Consequently this note is called a ‘whole note’ - as it fills the whole of a four beat bar.
